 RETHINKING CHALLENGING BEHAVIOR

HBCC invites parents, guardians, families, caregivers, and providers to continue learning the Collaborative Problem Solving® (CPS) approach by taking this Advanced Course & Essential Foundation.

Through the HBCC CPS Class you learned why rewards, consequences & planned ignoring have not solved “behaviors” and an introduction to the evidence-based, trauma-informed CPS approach for helping children develop the skills they need to better manage their behavior.

The Advanced Course & Essential Foundation covers 12.5 more hours of content on the approach to assist you with successful implementation at home, advocacy in the school setting, and navigating the sea of options for additional clinical care if needed.

Through role-play, video examples, case studies, breakout groups, questions & answers, participants learn how to apply Collaborative Problem Solving® and differentiate between how to respond to situations using: Plan A, Plan B, Plan C.

Upon Completion, you will be able to:

  • Use intentional strategies for when a child has difficulty with cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation, executive function, social skills & communicating concerns/needs
  • Identify when to use Plan A and how to follow up with a Plan B
  • Identify what to Plan C and how to follow up with a Plan B
  • Use an Emergency Plan B
  • The ingredients of a Proactive Plan B
  • When & How use “dosing” with the ingredients of Plan B
  • Advocating in the school setting for CPS, treatment instead of punishment
  • Navigate the sea of options vetting service providers, therapy & follow up care if needed
